South Yorkshire’s Skills Expo 2024 returns for a Second Year to support business

In March 2024, the SY Skills Expo bought together nearly 200 employers and partners to discuss to support business growth through the harnessing of new digital skills and AI. This is the second regional event and is aimed at making it easier for businesses to get the skills that they need.

With 80% of the future workforce already in employment and 90% of jobs requiring some level of digital skills within the next 20 years, the event showcased how businesses are and will be supported in rising to this challenge. The event also had input from key local players like South Yorkshire’s Mayor – Oliver Coppard.

It also allowed those to attending to hear first-hand about large scale investments in training are being made across the region to open the system and provide state of the art training across all sectors. In particular, the launch of the regional network of immersive training spaces to provide training and the delivery of a regional modern methods of construction centre to be opened in Barnsley late 2024.

The South Yorkshire Institute of Technology was also formally launched. This initiative will allow the development of key skills solutions in some of our advanced industries.

Before the event ended, a significant networking a best practice session was held allowing delegates to talk and meet skills providers directly to see how they can support each other better.

Employers can access funded training supported by the Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF) through a network of local skills providers which are the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre, Barnsley College, Doncaster Specialist Communication College, DN Colleges Group, Northern College, RNN Group, Sheffield Hallam University, South Yorkshire Provider Network, and The Sheffield College. The aim of the fund is to encourage employers to work in new ways and get training to where it needs to be as quickly as possible.
